Madam President Chair of this Debate Fellow Rotarians Good Evening to you all I will respect you whether you agree or disagree with what say. Conversely, I would request that you allow me to express my views candidly and that you would not take offence for my honesty as you have been asked to do so by the president’s email to you. There is a brief preamble to my talk, followed by issues as I see them and finally suggestions to address and remedy the issues. So let me start Most of you are aware, I was one of the quartet who apparently threatened to leave this club and join another club. As a result, the immediate past president convened an emergency council meeting to discuss the matter. The threat was wrongly perceived and†¦show more content†¦There is nothing wrong with having your own clique as long as it does not cloud your vision when you make Rotary decisions. I have my own clique which happens to be outside the Rotary club. Let me now illustrate: You have a Christmas Float that you have been using for the past 20+ years and hopefully you will use it for many years to come. It has helped us collect a large amount of money every year. BUT who gave you this Christmas Float? I am, aware that long standing members of this club know the answer. It was me. I designed the Christmas Float, my then staff and students constructed it and from my Faculty’s budget I authorised overtime payments over a number of weeks, and I had the approval to do so from the Senior Management Team of which I was a member. Do you not consider this Christmas Float as a major work that I did for the club? Surely you do. Was I acknowledged by awarding me The Lamplighter of the Year for this very major contribution? NO. A few weeks ago, it was mentioned at the presentation of The Lamplighter of the Year award, designing a leaflet for the club formed some of the work of one of the recipients. Well, look at this leaflet - several years ago, I designed, wrote and issued this pretty publicity brochure. We printed 150 copies of it. Was I awarded EVEN the Lamplighter for this work?
